Madre

Description

With themes grounded in a rich Italian history of religion, superstition, psychedelia & chemistry, Madre was envisioned as a sensory and immersive destination. Inspired by the tonal changes of the sun and the ocean from which the Pizza Montenara was created, Madre transforms a neglected space within the southeast corner of CBD Adelaide into an embrace of glowing warmth. Housed within an old restaurant and two outbuildings, every detail within Madre celebrates a close and creative collaboration. Hand-selected 70s vinyl records fills the space with a nostalgic charm, while custom-made chairs ensure guests can settle in for long, leisurely meals. With its own sense of romance - where art and architecture merge – each space (amenities included) was envisioned to be an visual and cerebral series of experience, with celestial soundscapes and ambient lighting emphasise an otherworldly pause in time and altered perception of space. Though Madre’s story was cut short by the pandemic, its legacy lives on as an evocative and intimate architectural experiences – as its own memory. It was a place where the boundaries between dining, art, and the atmosphere of preparing and sharing a meal dissolved, leaving an indelible mark. We hold hope that Madre may rise again, bringing its ethereal glow back to life.
